Prom and After Prom Information

Somerset High School Junior/Senior Prom will be held at the Center for Rural Development May 4, 2013. The Prom will begin at 8:00 and end at midnight.

 

The 2013 After Prom event will be held at Rocky Hollow Recreational Center on May 4, 2013 from 1:00 am to 4:00 am.

Somerset High School DECA Students Have Great Success At DECA State!!!

The Somerset High School DECA Chapter took 32 DECA members to the DECA State Career and Development Conference at the Galt House in Louisville on March 10th-12th.  The students competed in various marketing-related events that they qualified for at DECA Regionals.

Advanced Placement Exam Information

 

Students who plan to take an AP exam MUST sign up and pay before March 27.

Students who receive free or reduced lunches are eligible for the reduced fee of $53 per exam. 

All others will be charged the full $89. 

Operation Preparation

FAFSA Assistance for Seniors

Gina Collins from Lindsey Wilson College will be in the SHS Guidance Office starting at 10:00am on Friday, January 25, to assist seniors with filing their FAFSA form. SHS Coach Steve Wallace Named Commonwealth Journal Coach of the Year
Steve Wallace has been a busy man this year.

He started out the year as an assistant Briar Jumper boys basketball coach. After that, he coached both the boys and girls varsity track teams in the spring. During the summer months, and into the fall season, he coached the Somerset boys varsity soccer team. And finally, he took to the basketball court again as the year ended, as the Lady Jumpers assistant basketball coach. Read More>>>

Following Friday’s horrific school shootings in Connecticut, a number of organizations have posted online resources for parents and educators talking to children.  KSBA(Kentucky School Boards Association) has pulled together multiple resources that may assist with this process.

Kim Baldwin from The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority will be at Somerset High School in the WB Jones Auditorium on Wednesday, October 24 at 5:00pm to do a presentation for parents and students regarding financial planning for college. This is for all grade levels.

For the second consecutive year, the board of directors of the Kentucky School Boards Association will fund two $2,500 scholarships for eligible Kentucky high school seniors to attend any two or four- year accredited college or university.  Read more>>

National PTA wants to make sure that parents have the tools they need to assist children and schools as they implement the healthy changes for 2012-13.

What:  Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs (GSE) is a three week residential summer camp where creative students become immersed in developing solutions to real world problems or needs. Students, working in teams, will learn how to take an idea, utilize science, technology, engineering and math skills to turn it into a product or service, and develop a business model around it.
Hannah Lake Earns the President's Volunteer Service Award
Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY), the President's Volunteer Service Award, the Corporation for National and Community Service, and the Points of Light Institute proudly recognize and certify Hannah Lake  for her exceptional commitment to serve others. Senior portrait retakes will be done by Lifetouch on December 11 beginning at 8:30 AM in WB Jones Auditorium.  Students will be called to the auditorium by homeroom.

DECA Students Are National Winners!

Somerset High School DECA Students traveled to California this past week for national competition.  Four of the seven Kentucky students that received national recognition are from Somerset High School.

Jackson Family Benefit Concert

Members of the Briar Jumper Nation suffered a tragic loss recently.  The Jackson family is mourning the loss of their father and their home in a fire.  Two local bands performed a  Benefit Concert to help raise money for the Jackson family.  Broken Glass and Out Of The Ashes performed in WB Jones Auditorium to a standing room only crowd.  More >> >>

Rogers Scholars Information

Last month at SHS, Delaney Stephens from The Center for Rural Development spoke to eligible sophomores about Rogers Scholars.
District Basketball Tournament

Somerset High School will play host to the KHSAA Boys and Girls 47th District Tournament.  All games will be played at the Briar Patch with the Boys Basketball action starting on 02/19, 7 p.m. and the Girls Basketball action on 02/21, 6:30 p.m.  Tickets will be available at the door for $6.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month Costume for a Cure
During the month of October, Somerset High School students and staff recognized Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Somerset High School’s Honors Night will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 7:00 p.m. in the W.B. Jones auditorium.

The Kentucky Federation of Republican Women (KFRW) is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a college-bound high school senior girl who has been politically active during her high school career. The qualified applicant will graduate from a Ky high school in 2013, is a registered Republican and plans to enroll at a Ky college or university. The application deadline is April 1, 2013.
